(3)fast For the purposes of pro-asceticism, fasting is voluntary and healthy. The purpose is to obtain purity and peace. One should fast as frequently as possible, generally increasing the time or frequency of the fasts. Whether someone begins fasting twelve hours a week or one day a week- it doesn't matter. What's most important is that the person begins. pro-Asceticism proclaims over-eating to be one of the worst forms of lacking self-control. By choosing not to over-eat, one can achieve greater peace by learning to control cravings and restrain sensual indulgences. Fasting regularly affects the mind and spirit just as much as it does the body. Learning to tell the difference between psychological and physiological hunger is an important first step. Learning about how your body works, knowing what it really needs, and how to stay healthy is another important step. Deciding to adopt an ascetic lifestyle requires the commitment and desire to seek peace. |
Why is anaMine Non-ED?
Eating disorders are not voluntary. While a person can choose to seek help and recover, (s)hedoes not choose to have a disorder.
Difference between PR0-Anorexia & PR0-Ana:
While it is my contention that desires to be thin are cultural, desiring to be emaciated even with the risk of death is not. To say that I am PR0-'anorexia' or PR0-'bulimia' (with the entire word of the disorder) may be offensive and insensitive. I've realized that my choice to control my behavior is not disorder, but order with a healthy purpose and premeditated intent. To signify this choice, I prefer to use the abbreviations PR0 Ana/Mia which to me are distinctly different.
A website on Mental Disorders states:
It can sometimes be hard to see the difference between a disorder and a disease, so as definitions go a disorder is an ailment that affects the function of mind or body and a disease is a pathological condition of a part, organ, or system of an organism resulting from various causes, such as infection, genetic defect, or environmental stress, and characterized by an identifiable group of signs or symptoms. A disorder is more difficult to find a cause and sometimes a cure but a disease can be easily identified, cause and cure.
If I am purposely making choices that affect my mind and body (and spirit), then it is not an ailment determining my actions, only me and the conscious decisions I've made.
Some people have written to me saying that I am just "legalizing" or synonymizing PR0-ED with pro-Asceticism. Everyone is entitled to her/his opinion. I believe that intention is important, and so is action. My behavior and the intention behind it is not the same as the intentions of someone suffering from an eating disorder.Because of this, I have refocused the intention of this website to help people be healthier, not become sick.
